The State of Mississippi may require a bond to obtain a title for a vehicle when the applicant is unable to provide a properly assigned Certificate of Title.
Step 1: Contact your local DMV, they will tell you if you are eligible for a title bond. If you are eligible, the DMV can provide you with the value of your vehicle. You must get the value from the DMV, if the bond amount is incorrect the state may not accept it. This could cause delays and additional fees.
Evidence of ownership is required, such as a bill of sale or cancelled check.
Step 2: Apply for the bond making sure to enter the value of the vehicle which the DMV has provided you. The system will calculate the bond amount to be 1.5 times the value of the vehicle. The cost of the bond starts at $100 and is based off the bond amount.
Step 3: To get the replacement title, you must fill out an Application for Replacement Certificate of Title (Form 78-006), https://www.dor.ms.gov/sites/default/files/Tags%20%26%20Titles/78006178.pdf and pay the fee to the Mississippi Department of Revenue. The address for the Department of Revenue is on the application.
The bond is time sensitive, and each state is different in the amount of time they allow to submit a bond. We highly recommend you submit the bond along with all other documents within 30 days of the effective date.
The bond remains in effect for 3 years from the effective date.
