The State of Missouri may require a bond to obtain a title for a vehicle when the applicant is unable to provide a properly assigned Certificate of Title.

To qualify for a bonded title in Missouri, the vehicle must be at least 7 years old and cannot have a value of more than $3,000. There must not be any prior application for title on the motor vehicle.

How to obtain a bonded title in Missouri

After verifying that the vehicle qualifies for a bonded title, you will need to obtain the following information:

An affidavit explaining how the vehicle or trailer was acquired and the reason a valid certificate of ownership cannot be furnished.
Evidence of ownership (such as a bill of sale or canceled check)
If the vehicle was last titled in another state, verification of the title from the state it was titled in.
A notarized lien release if any liens are on record for the vehicle
A vehicle examination certificate which is issued by Missouri State Highway Patrol, or other law enforcement agency as authorized by the director of revenue.
A statement certifying the odometer reading of the vehicle if less than ten years old.
Obtain the value of the vehicle either through Kelly Blue Book, NADA, or two appraisals from a licensed motor vehicle dealer.

You will use the value you obtained when filling out the application for a surety bond. The bond amount will be configured to two times the value by the system and will be no less than $100, per state regulations.
